Advanta CAT Bulletin 1 – Hurricane Melissa

Oct 31, 2025
Hurricane Melissa has strengthened into a Category 5 storm, posing a severe threat to Jamaica and neighbouring islands. With sustained winds reaching 175 mph (280 km/h), the storm is expected to bring destructive winds, heavy rainfall, and storm surges capable of causing catastrophic flooding and infrastructure damage across the region.

The US National Hurricane Centre has issued warnings of extensive power outages, disrupted communications, and isolated communities as Melissa moves through the Caribbean, marking one of the strongest storms to affect the region in recent years. The hurricane is forecast to strike Jamaica and southeastern Cuba at full strength and remain a major system as it approaches the southeastern Bahamas. Our deepest sympathies go out to all those affected by this devastating event.

At ADVANTA, we are fully prepared to assist our clients during this critical event. Our CAT response teams are mobilised, and with a local presence in Jamaica supported by our regional network across the Americas, we are positioned to deliver rapid, on-site loss adjusting and technical support where it’s most needed.
