Advanta Bulletin – Explosion in Beirut, Lebanon

As you all know, on the night of Tuesday, 4th August, an explosion occurred in the Lebanese capital, Beirut, after a fire at the port. The force of the blast appears to have been exacerbated by 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate that was reportedly stored in a warehouse. Other aspects of the initial ignition and contributory factors remain under investigation. According to information provided by the Lebanese Health Minister, at least 135 people have died and more than 4,000 others have been injured as a consequence of the blast.
First and foremost our hearts go out to the families of those who have lost their lives and have been affected by this terrible tragedy.
