At least 21 people have died, and thousands of residents have been displaced after heavy rainfall inundated the Dominican Republic over the weekend, according to the Emergency Operations Center. Considered the largest rainfall event ever, over 13,000 people had to move to more secure areas after torrential rains flooded homes, caused power outages, and damaged bridges and roads. Our hearts go out to the families of those who have lost their lives and have been affected by this tragic event.
With the substantial damages already reported and adverse weather conditions likely to persist, significant losses are expected.
