With more than 30 years’ experience involved with the construction industry and loss adjusting, Mark brings to Advanta a wealth of technical knowledge. Over the course of his career, he has handled CAR / EAR, property, machinery breakdown, professional indemnity and third-party liability losses. At Advanta, Mark specialises in all types of construction claims.
David McGhie - Business Development Director

Throughout his long and distinguished career, David has held a number of directorial positions with leading claims management companies in Europe and Latin America. He is considered one of the leading adjusters in handling tunnelling losses. Before entering loss adjusting in 1980, David gained 12 years’ experience in construction and civil engineering in the UK, Germany and South America. He has specialised in claims related to CAR / EAR, machinery breakdown including ALOP / DSU, as well as risk surveying.

Andy has over 40 years’ experience in loss adjusting gained across the world. Over the course of his career, he handled construction, engineering and energy claims, as well as related BI. Andy has also worked with the Bankers’ Blanket Bond policies (BBB) and lately he has been involved in major catastrophic losses worldwide. At Advanta, he specialises in onshore energy claims including power generation, industrial and commercial all risks.

After an initial period in design and development, Geoff served British Petroleum as a lead commissioning and operations engineer on several petrochemical projects worldwide. He has 15 years’ experience in international insurance, managing construction and operational losses in upstream and downstream oil and gas, bulk chemicals and power plants.

Jeff is an experienced engineer with over 20 years working as an electrical engineer and manager in the mining, electrical generation, transmission and distribution and food industry. He has performed insurance surveys for all forms of power generation, underground and open cast mines, as well as heavy industry installations worldwide. He also undertakes failures investigations of equipment, has taken leading roles in the design, specification and commission of large engineering projects and specializes in HV, Generators and Transformers, Steam Boilers, Power and Sub-sea Cables, DC Power and Power Stations, Electrical Transmission and Distribution, Gas, Steam, Hydro-electric and Wind Turbines, Geothermal, Risk Surveys, Pre Risk Surveys, Failure investigations, Risk Engineering Consultation and Instrumentation and Control.

Andrew has 12 years’ experience within the insurance industry including 8 years working as a loss adjuster. Throughout his career, he has acquired considerable experience in handling a wide range of claims related to commercial property damage including CAR / EAR. At Advanta, Andrew continues to deal with a variety of construction and engineering claims which are his main specialities.

Ian is a chartered loss adjuster with over forty years’ experience in the profession. He began his adjusting career handling property, high net worth, construction and liability claims in the UK. In 1988 he became involved with hurricane claims in the Caribbean, subsequently moving into a Home-Foreign role in London, handling a varied portfolio of major and complex overseas claims for both the London and international markets. In 2003 he launched his independent consultancy, providing a range of claim, risk and consultancy services to UK and overseas Insurers, Reinsurers and loss adjusters.Languages: English, French, basic German and Spanish.

David is an experienced loss adjuster specialised in construction, property, engineering and business interruption claims. He originally qualified as a civil engineer and then, in 1983 as an accountant, before moving into loss adjusting after a stint as company accountant. He has worked in the UK and New Zealand for over 30 years and acquired a wealth of experience in construction, property and BI claims. He has handled complex business interruption claims related to the Christchurch earthquakes amongst other natural disaster related claims. Throughout his career, David has also gained valuable management experience running two companies providing repair and reinstatement services to the insurance industry, handling all aspects of their financial and operational matters.

Susan is an experienced loss adjuster with extensive industry and insurance knowledge specialising in the handling of complex energy related onshore and offshore claims worldwide. These claims have involved, inter alia, major offshore construction, pipelines, seabed scouring, ROV operations, refinery damage, business interruption and contingent business interruption. Susan has also worked extensively on the 2017 Hurricane Irma and Maria losses, including a wide variety of commercial property, wind and solar farm losses. Susan has a good understanding of wordings and policy packages, and has experience placing energy reinsurance for numerous Oil and Gas companies with a large broker. She also has industry experience working for many years as a Hydrographic Surveyor and Offshore Survey Project manager for energy and telecommunications companies worldwide, but particularly based in South America, the Falklands, Atlantic and North Sea.Languages: English.

Carmen commenced her professional career as an engineer working for major companies in the energy industry in Spain. She entered the London insurance market in 2013 where she has been furthering her career specializing in energy including renewables, construction and engineering claims. Carmen has handled technical claims globally including offshore and onshore risks and major losses occurring during the construction and operational phases of power generation and oil and gas plants.Languages: English, Spanish, basic Portuguese and French.

Blue has developed his expertise in contaminated land, flood risk assessment and geotechnical engineering. He has sharpened his analytical skills through his involvement in various environmental site investigations and in the preparation of detailed geo-environmental reports. Blue has been involved in various renewable energy projects in Brighton conducting feasibility and environmental studies during his time working for Brighton and Hove City Council.

Michael is a Chartered Loss Adjuster with 30 years’ experience in managing complex and technical claims, both in the UK and overseas. Originally working in the construction, engineering and BI fields; for the last 18 years he has specialised in liability claims. He has extensive experience dealing with multi-million-pound fire, flood and construction claims; as well as major injury claims and fatalities. In addition, Michael has experience of products, environmental and cyber claims.

Joseph has over 9 years of multi-discipline experience as an engineer. He initially worked in Civil Engineering after graduating, delivering foundation and structural repair projects related to subsidence. Joseph then worked for over five years as a Project Engineer on multiple offshore and subsea projects for Oil & Gas clients in the North Sea. During that time, he was involved in multiple scopes of work, ranging from subsea structure installations to flexibles and umbilicals as well as diving and ROV intervention.

Alistair has joined Advanta as a loss adjuster in our Construction UK/Surveying division, working as part of a team of highly experienced loss adjusters. He is assisting on a variety of construction related insurance losses: Construction All Risks, Machinery Breakdown and Inherent Defects claims among others. Alistair has several years’ experience in the finance and insurance markets and is now keen to progress his career as a Construction adjuster. He is currently studying for his CILA qualification.

Alasdair has over 5 years’ experience as a Loss Adjuster. He is an experienced claims’ professional, having initially commenced his career as a Claims Advocate at a specialist claims advocacy company before working for an international loss adjusting practice in the City, handling major property losses. He has significant experience dealing with complex claims and managing experts such as Forensic Accountants, Surveyors and Engineers.

Emma is a loss adjuster with a focus in Energy and Renewables who joined Advanta as part of the newly formed renewables team. Prior to Advanta, she worked at the specialist loss adjusting firm Renewable Energy Loss Adjusters (RELA) where she worked as the main solar energy adjuster. Emma has presented on the subject of solar energy claims at various conferences within Europe and the US. She has substantial knowledge of wind energy claims and is experienced in handling large and complex claims. Emma also undertakes and writes pre-risk surveys for renewable energy assets.

Nicholas has 10 years’ experience in loss adjusting and claims handling within the energy sector, with five years specifically focused on renewable energy. He specialises in wind, solar and biomass claims worldwide and has dealt with complex and contentious losses. He has also undertaken pre-risk surveys on renewable assets on behalf of insurers and owners, and has been speaker at conferences internationally to underwriters and brokers.

Amanda has over 16 years’ experience in finance and operations in the Middle East and the UK. She has progressed from an administration role to Loss Adjusting. She has worked over 5 years handling claims in a variety of insurance classes: Marine, Commercial Property, Fire and Perils, Business Interruption, Machinery Breakdown and Theft, among others. Amanda has also carried out on-site surveys relating to property and public liability losses, following up with documentation for settlement and closure with the preparation of draft claim reports.
