    George Viar - Managing Director

    BA (Hons) Business Administration (ICADE Business School), Chartered Management Accountant (ACMA), Dip Marketing (ACIM). 

    George co-founded Advanta Global Services in 2003 and has served as Finance Director and Head of Forensic Accounting, before becoming Managing Director in 2014. Previously, George had held management positions in leading forensic accounting and loss adjusting firms. In the course of his over 20-year career in claims George has gained extensive experience in the evaluation of corporate losses in a wide range of industry sectors all over the world. He has specialised in Business Interruption and ALOP / DSU claims but also possesses experience in Fidelity, Products’ Liability, Bankers’ Blanket Bond and Financial Institutions.

    David McGhie - Business Development Director

    AA Dip (Diploma Architectural Association), Chartered Architect (RIBA - Royal Institute of British Architects).

    Throughout his long and distinguished career, David has held a number of directorial positions with leading claims management companies in Europe and Latin America. He is considered one of the leading adjusters in handling tunnelling losses. Before entering loss adjusting in 1980, David gained 12 years’ experience in construction and civil engineering in the UK, Germany and South America. He has specialised in claims related to CAR / EAR, machinery breakdown including ALOP / DSU, as well as risk surveying.

    Oliver Thoma - Power and Mining Director

    BSc Eng (Elec - Mech) with specialisation in Mining, MSc Eng (Operations Management).

    Oliver has over 15 years’ experience in handling high value CAR / EAR, power, industrial all risk and property claims across Latin America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Before joining Advanta in 2005, he had also gained valuable experience in working on high-profile losses related to tunnel collapses, major plant and machinery breakdown in the mining, petrochemical and energy industries.

    Adam is a Chartered Loss Adjuster with over two decades of experience managing technical and complex contractual and insurance claims internationally. Adam possesses a wealth of experience having worked in the construction and engineering industries, prior to entering the loss adjusting profession. Adam has built a reputation in the insurance market due to his extensive experience in energy, property, construction & engineering and specialist liability claims.

    BSc Building Surveying, Chartered Surveyor (MRICS - Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors), FCILA (Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters), FUEDI - ELAE (European Federation of Loss Adjusting Experts). 

    With 30 years’ experience in risk surveying and loss adjusting, Mark brings to Advanta a wealth of technical knowledge. Over the course of his career, he has gained a good grounding in handling CAR / EAR, property, machinery breakdown, professional indemnity and third party liability losses. At Advanta, Mark specialises in all types of construction claims.

    Andy Cathersides

    ACII (Associate of the Chartered Insurance Institute), FCILA (Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters), FUEDI - ELAE (European Federation of Loss Adjusting Experts), FIFAA (Fellow of the International Federation of Adjusting Associations).  

    Andy has over 40 years’ experience in loss adjusting gained across the world. Over the course of his career, he handled construction, engineering and energy claims, as well as related BI. Andy has also worked with the Bankers’ Blanket Bond policies (BBB) and lately he has been involved in major catastrophic losses worldwide. At Advanta, he specialises in onshore energy claims including power generation, industrial and commercial all risks.

    After an initial period in design and development, Geoff served British Petroleum as a lead commissioning and operations engineer on several petrochemical projects worldwide. He has 15 years’ experience in international insurance, managing construction and operational losses in upstream and downstream oil and gas, bulk chemicals and power plants.

    Jeff is an experienced engineer with over 20 years working as an electrical engineer and manager in the mining, electrical generation, transmission and distribution and food industry. He has performed insurance surveys for all forms of power generation, underground and open cast mines, as well as heavy industry installations worldwide. He also undertakes failures investigations of equipment, has taken leading roles in the design, specification and commission of large engineering projects and specializes in HV, Generators and Transformers, Steam Boilers, Power and Sub-sea Cables, DC Power and Power Stations, Electrical Transmission and Distribution, Gas, Steam, Hydro-electric and Wind Turbines, Geothermal, Risk Surveys, Pre Risk Surveys, Failure investigations, Risk Engineering Consultation and Instrumentation and Control.

    Ian is a chartered loss adjuster with over forty years’ experience in the profession. He began his adjusting career handling property, high net worth, construction and liability claims in the UK. In 1988 he became involved with hurricane claims in the Caribbean, subsequently moving into a Home-Foreign role in London, handling a varied portfolio of major and complex overseas claims for both the London and international markets. In 2003 he launched his independent consultancy, providing a range of claim, risk and consultancy services to UK and overseas Insurers, Reinsurers and loss adjusters.

    After commencing a career in Insurance within the then Sun Alliance's Professional Indemnity underwriting team, Mark switched to claims and especially third party liability claims where he has specialised for 28 years. Mark has experience in many facets of liability matters from cross border multi jurisdiction disputes to a test case in the Court of Appeal. Mark has been a loss adjuster for over 25 years, developing a thorough knowledge and understanding of standard and bespoke policy wordings.

    David is an experienced loss adjuster specialised in construction, property, engineering and business interruption claims. He originally qualified as a civil engineer and then, in 1983 as an accountant, before moving into loss adjusting after a stint as company accountant. He has worked in the UK and New Zealand for over 30 years and acquired a wealth of experience in construction, property and BI claims. He has handled complex business interruption claims related to the Christchurch earthquakes amongst other natural disaster related claims. Throughout his career, David has also gained valuable management experience running two companies providing repair and reinstatement services to the insurance industry, handling all aspects of their financial and operational matters.

    Susan is an experienced loss adjuster with extensive industry and insurance knowledge specialising in the handling of complex energy related onshore and offshore claims worldwide. These claims have involved, inter alia, major offshore construction, pipelines, seabed scouring, ROV operations, refinery damage, business interruption and contingent business interruption. Susan has also worked extensively on the 2017 Hurricane Irma and Maria losses, including a wide variety of commercial property, wind and solar farm losses. Susan has a good understanding of wordings and policy packages, and has experience placing energy reinsurance for numerous Oil and Gas companies with a large broker. She also has industry experience working for many years as a Hydrographic Surveyor and Offshore Survey Project manager for energy and telecommunications companies worldwide, but particularly based in South America, the Falklands, Atlantic and North Sea.
